Compatibility
Compatible with split systems, VRF systems, residential and commercial heat pumps, and cold rooms. Requires polyolester (POE) lubricant when retrofitting systems previously operated with R22 mineral oil.
How to use
R407C as a retrofit solution for R22 systems
R407C was specifically developed for the retrofitting of existing R22 systems. The performance data is similar to R22, which allows for a direct replacement in many systems. Typical procedure:
- Recover R22 completely.
- Replace mineral oil with polyolester (POE) in 2–3 cycles, as R407C is not compatible with mineral oil.
- Replace the filter drier with an HFC/POE-compatible model.
- Evacuate the system to remove moisture and foreign gases.
- Charge R407C in liquid form according to the manufacturer's weight – do not mix with R22 residues.
- Check for leaks as well as superheat/subcooling.
The temperature glide of ~5–7 K is a significant difference compared to pure refrigerants like R32. It influences the design of heat exchangers and expansion valves. Before any retrofit, the system must be professionally inspected. Only refrigerant that complies with the EN 378 and ISO 817 standards must be used.
